Cancer Trends - Mesothelioma

A short report published today by the National Cancer Registry gives an overview of  mesothelioma in Ireland. A comparatively rare cancer, an average of 24 cases are diagnosed  in Ireland every year, the majority of which are pleural mesothelioma subtypes.  Asbestos  exposure is a well documented risk factor for this disease and it is 5 times more commonly diagnosed in men than in women.  Incidence in men has increased over time, a trend that is expected to continue
