Conan joined the National Cancer Registry in September 2017. He had previously worked in the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency as a statistician where he was seconded to the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry from 2009 to 2017. Here he designed and completed several research studies, he was responsible for the managing the Northern Ireland contribution to the International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership and overseen the production of official statistics on cancer incidence and survival. He completed his PhD thesis in 2016 on factors associated with early death in colorectal cancer after four years of part-time study at Queen’s University Belfast. He also holds an MSc in Communication and a BSc Hons Degree in Biological Science from Queen’s University. Conan’s research interests include the clinical diagnosis of cancer, cancer survivorship and understanding and explaining variations in cancer care.
