All-Ireland Cancer Conference

The National Cancer Registry, Ireland and the Cork Cancer Research Centre in conjunction with the Ireland-Northern Ireland-National Cancer Institute Consortium will co-host the All Ireland Cancer Conference in the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork from the 19th-22nd October 2003. This is a multidisciplinary conference which will offer the cancer care and research communities in the US, and both parts of Ireland, an opportunity to come together with cancer experts from around the world to discuss developments in cancer research.

The goal of the consortium is to reduce the incidence of cancer in both parts of Ireland, which have amongst the highest rates of cancer in the western world. The three parties in the consortium have worked together since its inception in 1999 to conduct world class cancer research and thereby improve cancer prevention and cancer care in Ireland.

The conference will cover a wide range of topics including cancer statistics, cancer screening, lifestyle strategies for cancer prevention including tobacco and cancer prevention. It will also look at issues such as health policy and economics and access to treatment. There will be sessions on advances in cancer treatment and palliative care research including quality of life issues for cancer survivors. For clinicians there will be sessions on translational research and new therapies and discussions on clinical trials.
