Eleanor Crowley: A tribute

Photo of Eleanor Crowley

Eleanor Crowley was appointed as a Computer Programmer at the National Cancer Registry Ireland (NCRI) in October 1993. She was single handedly responsible for the development of the first data collection application used by the NCRI. This was launched in Spring 1994. As IT Manager, Eleanor managed the team that developed the NCRI’s second data collection system which was released in June 2002. She was instrumental in setting up one of the first national disease registries in Ireland.

Eleanor sadly passed away in August 2016 after a dignified and heroic battle with long term illness. She is survived by her loving family, her husband Donie and her four children Deirdre, Julie, Kate and Donal.

Eleanor was professional, practical and patient - qualities that were key to the success of the NCRI’s IT systems. Her warmth, good humour and sense of fun made it a pleasure to work with her.

She leaves behind an excellent professional reputation and a legacy of great friendship. Eleanor is sadly missed by all her friends and colleagues at the NCRI.
