National Cancer Registry to co-host ICE Awards Conference 2014

The National Cancer Registry is excited to be co-hosting the 2014 Health Research Board Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement Award Conference, to be held on the 14th of January 2014 in Cork.

The Health Research Board has funded 11 Interdisciplinary Capacity Enhancement (ICE) Awards in 2011 and 2012. These innovative postdoctoral fellowships are designed to build and attract capacity for future leaders in Population Health and Health Services Research in Ireland. These awards have a team-based approach, enabling the development of partnerships between researchers, practitioners and decision-makers in policy and health service delivery.

Each year the ICE Award fellows meet to provide an opportunity for sharing research ideas and results, networking within and between disciplines and undertaking professional development activities. In January 2014 this conference will be hosted by the Cork-based ICE Award holders - University College Cork Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, the National Suicide Research Foundation and the National Cancer Registry.

The focus of the conference is on 'Communicating your Research', and two exciting guest speakers have been announced. First, the Innovation Academy at Trinity College Dublin will be presenting the practical workshop 'Shoot the Researcher' - Communicating your research to a wider audience. Second, Donal O'Shea of St Vincent's University Hospital and University College Dublin will be presenting Health messaging in the media - why we must inform it. Further information about the conference will be made available on the website and on twitter, using the conference hashtag #HRBICE14.
