The Registry has published a trends report (number 24) on head & neck cancer addressing incidence, mortality treatment and survival for this cancer.
The latest cancer trends report addresses head & neck cancer. It shows that this cancer accounted 2.9% of all malignant neoplasms and 213 deaths in the period 2010-2012. The incidence rate has been climbing at 1% per annum for men and 1.4% per annum for women, and the median age at diagnosis has fallen from 67 to 63 years for women and from 64 to 63 years for men. Between 1994-2011, 67% of patients have received radiotherapy, and survival has increased from 46% to 54% between the periods 1994-1999 and 2006-2011. Finally, tobacco and alcohol are well established risk factors for this cancer.
