The latest trends report, published today by the National Cancer Registry, shows that an annual average of over 6,300 cases of non-melanoma skin cancer were diagnosed in Ireland between 1994 and 2011; 68% of which were basal cell (BCC) and 30% squamous cell (SCC) carcinomas.
Despite the large number of cases diagnosed per year, since 1994, fewer than 50 people per year on average have died from this cancer.
