4th All-Ireland Cancer Conference

The National Cancer Registry, Ireland in conjunction with the Ireland-Northern Ireland-National Cancer Institute Consortium will co-host the 4th All Ireland Cancer Conference at the Four Seasons Hotel Dublin from November 30th to December 3rd 2008. This multidisciplinary conference will offer the cancer care and research communities on the island of Ireland an opportunity to hear top-ranking international cancer researchers from across the spectrum of cancer disciplines, from genomics to nursing, and to discuss the latest developments in cancer care and research at workshops and parallel sessions.

The overall theme will be that of transforming research into practice. The conference will cover a wide range of topics including recent developments in basic science, biobanking, epidemiology, oncology, cancer nursing and end-of-life care together with discussions on the future of cancer research and cancer control from both a national and international perspective. Translational research, new therapies and clinical trials will be an important focus.

 Internationally recognised speakers at this conference will include Drs Doug Lowy and Mark Schiffman, speaking on HPV, Drs Ronald Barr and Les Robison on childhood and adolescent cancer, Dr Giorgio Trinchieri on inflammation and cancer and Dr James Doroshow on drug development. Dr Steven Chanock will chair a “state of the science” session on genome-wide association studies. The keynote address, on the future of cancer control, will be given by Professor David Hill, Chairman of the International Union against Cancer (UICC). Cancer policy in Ireland will be explored by Professor Tom Keane, interim Director of the National Cancer Control Programme, and Dr Dermot Hughes, Lead Clinician in the Northern Ireland Cancer Network.
