Latest trends in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma published by the National Cancer Registry

The National Cancer Registry’s latest trends report on non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), published today shows that an annual average of 660 new cases are diagnosed per year in Ireland making it the sixth most common cancer overall. Incidence in Ireland is amongst the highest in Europe, and since 1994, incidence rates here have increased annually by almost 2%.  NHL was found to be more common in urban compared to rural areas and national survival estimates have shown a substantial and significant increase since the 1990’s.  Most recent estimates show 5 year survival rates of 72% in women and 65% in men.  Recently published results of NHL survival across Europe show survival rates in Ireland to be 6% higher than the European average with values close to those recorded in Germany, Denmark and Norway.
