New cancer incidence statistics system available

The Registry has released a new incidence statistics system, replacing the on-line cancer incidence. This article describes the system and how to use it.

The new incidence interface

The new incidence statistics system is available here. There is a tabbed interface which provides access to a variety of different incidence analyses:

  • Tab 1: Incidence by sex and year
  • Tab 2: Incidence by county and region
  • Tab 3: Incidence by age

A help page is also available on the 'About' tab.

The application is easy to use. Select the tab that has the analysis you are interested in. You will be presented with a form where a number of parameters must be entered. For example, in incidence by sex & year, you must select cancer, region, year/age range and whether years should be grouped. When all parameters are entered, hit the 'Display incidence' button and your chart and tabulation will appear. If years are grouped, you will be presented with a bar chart. Ungrouped years plot to a line chart.

All tabulation and charts can be exported using the adjacent buttons. Tables can be exported as CSV (Excel) or text file. Charts can be exported as PNG, JPG, PDF or SVG files.

The underlying data is for the years 1994 to 2011, and will be updated on a regular basis.

When using the incidence statistics system, please remember the following important notes:

  1. Age standardised rates and risk are not provided for males and females combined as standardisation methods apply to each sex separately only.
  2. As the data on this website is updated regularly, the on-line cancer rates and data-set download may differ slightly from the Registry's published reports.
