This report describes trends in cancer mortality in Ireland from 1950-2020 with predictions to 2015. The age-standardised mortality rate for most cancers is predicted to fall between 1998-2002 and 2015. In absolute terms, the largest projected fall is in lung cancer in men, which is predicted to fall by almost 9 deaths per 100,000 person-years, or 25% of the 1998-2002 rate. The largest fall in women is predicted to be in breast cancer, by 5 deaths per 100,000 person-years, a fall of 21%.
