NCRI is committed to providing information and services, which are fully accessible to all of its audiences.
The aim with the website is to make it as accessible as possible regardless of the ability or disability of the user.
NCRI is committed to making ncri.ie accessible, in accordance with European Union (Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Bodies) regulations 2020.
Measures to support accessibility
NCRI takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of ncri.ie:
Design
The website has been designed in a manner that avoids clutter and provides a consistent navigation style. Content is well structured, with logical heading hierarchies, clear and visible labels. We feel that users should be easily able to identify which category the information they require falls into.
Search
A search engine has been included, which improves the retrieval of documents and also allows for an advanced search function.
Tables
The use of tables has been kept to a minimum on the site, and where data tables are required, they include appropriate header associations.

Compliance status
NCRI is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
Limitations
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of ncri.ie, there may be some limitations. Issues not included should be logged via the Contact form or email media@ncri.ie
Known limitations for ncri.ie:
- PDF format: Some of the information on this website is available in PDF format to provide for easier reading and printing of documents. This format is not always accessible. This may make it difficult for users with disabilities to access the full information, particularly where no equivalent text content is provided elsewhere on the site.
- Some images do not provide suitable alternative text to describe the image which does not meet WCAG version 2.2 AA - 1.1.1 Non-text Content.
Assessment approach
NCRI assessed the accessibility of ncri.ie by carrying out a self-evaluation.
The goal was to perform a high-level accessibility evaluation of the website against WCAG 2.2 levels A and AA based on representative sample pages of the website. These guidelines cover issues such as creating user friendly web content, writing meaningful alternative text, creating accessible link phrases and creating accessible documents.
Representative pages were tested using a selection of automated tools, browsers, operating systems and assistive technologies including (but not limited to):
- Modern browsers (e.g. Chrome, Firefox)
- Apple Safari with VoiceOver (macOS & iOS)
- NV Access’s NVDA (Windows)
- Axe-core by Deque Systems
- Keyboard only navigation
- Browser developer tools
- Apple Safari with VoiceOver (macOS & iOS)
