Minister appoints Dr Paul Kavanagh to the National Cancer Registry Board

The Minister for Health has formally appointed Dr Paul Kavanagh as a new member of the National Cancer Registry Ireland (NCRI) Board. The NCRI Board provides strategic governance and oversight to the NCRI.

The NCRI Board plays a central role in setting the NCRI’s strategic objectives, approving annual business plans and budgets, and ensuring good governance and risk management across the organisation. Board members meet quarterly to assess progress and provide oversight. Professor Deirdre Murray, Director of the NCRI, welcomed the appointment, stating: “We are delighted to welcome Dr Paul Kavanagh to the NCRI Board. His extensive public health background, experience in health policy and data governance, and deep understanding of national health systems make him a highly valued member of our Board.”
She added that Dr Kavanagh’s expertise will support the implementation of NCRI’s 2024–2026 Strategic Plan, bolstering efforts in data-driven cancer surveillance, prevention policy, and service evaluation.
