NCRI Data Helps Inform New RCPI Position Paper on Tobacco-Free Future
The National Cancer Registry Ireland (NCRI) welcomes the publication of Time for a Tobacco‑free Future, the new position paper from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) Clinical Advisory Group on Smoking and E‑cigarettes.
The paper outlines six key calls to action aimed at reducing tobacco-related harm and guiding Ireland toward a tobacco‑free future. These include commitments to strengthening national policy, protecting children and communities, reducing the attractiveness and availability of tobacco products, and ensuring that anyone who wishes to quit receives the right support.
This publication represents another excellent example of NCRI data being put to impactful and effective use. NCRI cancer statistics play an essential role in understanding the burden of tobacco-related diseases in Ireland, supporting evidence‑based recommendations for prevention, early detection, and improved healthcare delivery. By contributing robust, high‑quality data to national conversations on tobacco control, NCRI helps inform policies that can reduce cancer incidence and improve long‑term health outcomes.
We congratulate the RCPI Clinical Advisory Group on this important and timely contribution to public health.
