Record linkage

Once the data has been imported and put into the correct format, new registrations are created or existing registrations updated.

During the import process into the CRS, electronic data is standardised, cleaned, and coded. Incoming files are converted to the expected format for the NCRI database. A variety of validation checks are performed on all data during import.

Electronic record linkage and deduplication of tumour registrations use probabilistic matching. This process identifies whether two records refer to the same individual or address, allowing for transcription errors in dates, and misspellings in names and addresses.
