The patient
NCRI collects information on the diagnosis and primary treatment of the patient’s cancer. Data is collected on primary treatments that take place within approximately 12 months of diagnosis.
Patient identification

When NCRI is notified of a patient's cancer, this information is entered into its cancer registration database.
What information is collected?

For every new cancer case in Ireland, NCRI registers the following:
- name
- address
- sex
- date of birth
- type and location of the cancer
- how advanced the cancer is
- primary treatment received by the patient
Most of this information is extracted by NCRI Electronic Cancer Data Registrars from hospital medical records. In cases where death occurs, NCRI obtains the date and cause of death from the death certificate
How is the patient’s privacy and confidentiality protected?
